| The Literacy Training Network is a special program sponsored by the University of St. Thomas' School of Education. LTN provides a framwork for Adult Basic Education (ABE) staff training and development throughout the state of Minnesota. Its mission is to assist the Minnesota Department Education in implementing the Minnesota State Plan for Adult Education which addresses the needs of educationally disadvantaged adult learners through program and staff development. To that end, the University of St. Thomas' School of Education, through LTN, contracts each year with the Minnesota Department of Education to provide such services. Minnesota Department of Education staff provide direct input to the management of the project.
As the organization primarily charged with providing staff development opportunities and resources to paid literacy program staff, LTN is complimented in Minnesota by its counterpart for volunteer literacy programs, the Minnesota Literacy Council. MLC also contracts with the Department of Education to provide training and resource services, but their target audience is the volunteers and volunteer coordinators working with literacy programs.
In addition to working with MLC, the Literacy Training Network also works closely with Minnesota's professional organization for literacy practitioners, volunteers, learners and friends, Literacy Minnesota.
